Asus PadFone And Transformer TF300T Launched In India For 64,999 And 43,999 Respectively

Asus today launched a couple of products in India, at an event in Bangalore. It’s been more than 6 months in the waiting, as Asus had shown off the PadFone back MWC earlier this year, but it’s finally here. With the PadFone, Asus tries to marry the Tablet and Phone bits, in an innovative way – you dock in the phone with the bigger, tablet-sized display that comes with the PadFone, and you have a tablet. The PadFone powers the bigger display, with the latter being only a bigger screen.

Asus PadFone

You get the PadFone, and the PadFone station which comes with a 10.1″ display and its own 6600 mAh battery, so you can work and work and work, or enjoy! Well, here are the specs of the PadFone phone.

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with Asus’s custom UI on top
  • 4.3″ Super AMOLED display, 960×540 pixels
  • 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm S4 Krait processor, Adreno 225 GPU
  • 8 MP main camera, LED flash, 1080p recording; front facing VGA camera
  • 1 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Hotspot, GPS
  • 1520 mAh battery
  • Price – INR 64,999 (~$1200)

It comes with the PadFone Station, a keyboard dock and a headset stylus. The dock also has a touchpad and a card reader.

Apart from the PadFone, the Taiwanese manufacturer also launched the Transformer TF300T tablet, running Ice Cream Sandwich. Another me-too tablet, and no surprises here.

Asus Transformer TF300T

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with Asus’s custom UI on top
  • 10.1″ IPS LCD display, 1280×800 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, ULP GeForce GPU
  • 8 MP main camera; front facing 1.2 MP camera
  • 1 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Hotspot, GPS
  • 22Wh battery
  • Price – INR 43,999

Insane pricing. The PadFone is innovative yes, but at 65k, it isn’t justified at all. Then again, there are only a few apps which can take advantage of the bigger 10.1″ PadFone station display.
