Huawei Ascend D Quad Official – Quad Core Processor, ICS. D Quad XL And D1 Also Announced

Huawei Ascend D Quad

Huawei has bet big this MWC. And that too in style. The Chinese company has announced a triplet – the Ascend D Quad (piece’ de resistance), the Ascend D Quad XL (lolol) and the Ascend D1. We have quite a lot of specs of the Ascend D Quad, so we’ll start with this. Also, it’s the company’s flagship device, so yeah.

First off, the D Quad comes with a quad core processor. Huawei’s built it on its own, and has clocked it at 1.5 GHz. It’s twice as fast as my desktop computer, to put it in perspective. On the OS front, it will come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

Bored? Quick glance at the specs –

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 4.5″ HD display; 32-bit true color graphics processor, ~330 PPI
  • 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor
  • 8 MP rear camera, capable of recording 1080p videos; 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • (Memory information isn’t available just yet)
  • Dolby Digital SS 5.1, with earSmart technology (Huawei-special)
  • 1800 mAh standard Li-ion battery

Add all the usual connectivity options in there, and you have a high-end smartphone. As far as my memory serves me, it’s a first from Huawei.

The company claims that the Ascend D Quad is the world’s fastest smartphone, but I’m not sure I’ll take the bait and accept it. But, it’s got to be really, really fast. Huawei is also claiming that the phone should last longer than others, due to the architecture of the new processor it’s made up. Again, it may or may not be true in real life. We should find out soon.

The Chinese company also announced the Ascend D Quad XL, which is nothing but an Ascend D Quad with a 2500 mAh battery. Ascend D1 was also announced, but all I know about it at this moment is that it comes with a dual core processor (rather than the quad core on the other two).

April is the release month. Pricing will be updated soon.
