Intel Shows Off Its Smartphone And Tablet Based On Android, Poised To Launch In 2012

Intel Phone

Exciting times ahead. At least as far as Intel is concerned, for it has just unveiled its smartphone and tablet reference devices, based on Android (which is what interests me).

Both the tablet and the smartphone will be using the Medfield chipset – with the tablet running Honeycomb and the smartphone running Gingerbread. Other details are quite geeky, so I’ll spare both you and me, for now. However, as Technology Preview reported, both the tablet and the smartphone felt really smooth in real life, matching the current top dogs in the market.

Intel’s VP of Architecture group, Stephen (another!) Smith said that the company plans to launch Medfield-based, Android-powered devices in the first half of 2012. Interesting.
