Opera vs DolphinHD : Hunt for the best browser

One major reason behind the success of Android has been its desktop level browsing capabilities. The android browser is pretty decent. However most people use either Opera Mobile or Dolphin BrowserHD for desktop like browsing experience. Both these got major updates recently. We decided to benchmark them in order to see who is the deadliest warrior… oops the best browser. We used Opera Mobile 11.5 and Dolphin HD 7.0.2 for these benchmarks

Rightware Browsermark

One of the most reliable and intensive benchmarks. BrowserMark is a benchmark tool designed to measure browser performance of mobile and embedded devices. BrowserMark measures a browser’s performance in JavaScript and HTML rendering. BrowserMark was designed to tell an end-user which browser performs the best on their mobile or embedded device.Sunspider

The benchmark includes tests to generate a tagcloud from JSON input, a 3D raytracer, cryptography tests, code decompression, and many more examples. There Results mostly represent real world performance.

Acid3

Acid3 test is a web test page from the Web Standards Project that checks a web browser’s compliance with elements of various web standards, particularly the Document Object Model (DOM) and JavaScript.

HTML5

The HTML5 test score is an indication of how well the browser supports the upcoming HTML5 standard and related specifications.

From the above results, it is clear that while DolphinHD makes better use of the hardware resources, Opera though a bit slower can provide overall better rendering of modern web pages.

We further decided to see the ACTUAL performance of these browsers. For our next test we chose 5 random website, cleared the cache and calculated the loading times (all times in seconds). Connection speed 512kbps

As you can see, Opera is much faster than BrowserHD in actual loading of webpages. Do tell us which is your favorite browser. Happy surfing
