Panasonic is all set to launch an eBook reader for the Japanese market, a report by Akihabara News suggests. The tablet (not named yet) will be supporting Rakuten eBook store of Japan.
The reader was shown off at the Tokyo eBook Expo.
This tablet mainly handles e-books for the Japanese market. What’s distinctive about it is the software, rather than the hardware. It has an API that can receive information from Rakuten and show it on screen. We’ll be offering a service where all you need is a Wi-Fi connection to get book information and rankings in real time.
The company is targetting the 30-40 age group alongside the old age ones, as it thinks that people belonging to these two groups tend to read a lot.
The demo unit was specced somewhat like this, which may change as the final version comes out:
- 7″ display, of 1024×600 resolution
- 400g weight
- Dual core processor
- Expandable memory (with a microSDHC card), camera
