Sony Buys Out Ericsson’s Stake In Sony Ericsson For 1.05 Billion Euros ($1.45 Billion)

Sony buys Ericsson's stake

Remember we reported some time back that Sony was going to acquire Ericsson’s stake in Sony Ericsson? Course you do. Reuters now reports that the deal has taken place.

Sony will be paying the Swedes (Ericsson, if you couldn’t guess already) about 1.05 Billion Euros in cash and in full and final settlement for their stake in Sony Ericsson (which is 50%).

We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment. This acquisition makes sense for Sony and Ericsson, and it will make the difference for consumers, who want to connect with content wherever they are, whenever they want

….said Sony Chairman and Chief Executive Sir Howard Stringer, in a statement.

Sony also gets ownership of five important wireless handset patent families. Families, and not just single patents.

So long Ericsson.
