Sony Ericsson took pleasure in expanding it’s already bulged Xperia range of Android smartphones by announcing two new devices – the ray and active.

Featuring a 3.3″ Reality display (with Mobile BRAVIA engine) and packing FWVGA resolution (854×480), this slim and ‘edgy’ Android device comes with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and a 1 GHz processor under the hood. There is an 8.1 MP Exmor R backlit sensor, capable of shooting in HD. Also present is front facing VGA camera for video calling.

Also present is Sony Ericsson’s “Facebook inside Xperia“, so you get a tightly integrated phonebook. Wi-Fi N and DLNA are supported as well, besides USB tethering. The ray should be available in four colors – black, gold, white and pink.

This is a rugged device, like the Motorola Defy and is aimed at health-conscious as well as ‘rough’ users. For starters, it is dust, water and scratch resistant device. Sporting a 3″ Reality display (with Mobile BRAVIA engine), this li’l device runs on a 1 GHz processor , comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and packs in a 5 MP camera that can do HD recording.

Oh, there’s Wi-Fi N and DLNA support included as well. And then, it comes with ANT+ support, to monitor heart rate. There are some goodies in the box like – changeable battery cover, detachable ear hooks for the headphones, an arm band and a wrist wrap. Very good for a device like this, indeed.

Both the devices will be launched this year Q3.
