According to a report by WSJ, it looks like Sony is all set to buy out Ericsson’s stake in Sony Ericsson.

Sony Ericsson is a joint venture created in 2001, in which Sony has a 50% stake. It seems Sony wants to integrate its smartphone and tablet business, noting how big the opportunity is in this industry. Here’s an excerpt –

By wresting full control of Sony Ericsson, a 50-50 joint venture created in 2001 that is the world’s sixth-largest cellphone manufacturer, Sony aims to integrate the smartphone business with that of its tablets, hand-held game machines, and personal computers to save on costs and better synchronize development of mobile devices

No information on the price Sony would have to shell out, though.
