Nokia Lumia 820 Review

Nokia Lumia 820 Review

I’d been on a Windows Phone 8 itinerary recently – 2 Windows Phones and 1 Nexus. Couldn’t ask for a better time to test the latest and greatest from two great companies – with Android 4.2, Google is currently doling out power and good design at the same time, and with Windows Phone 8, Microsoft is belting out power with great design and fluidity, all in one device. And…

Rumour: Nokia to unveil Project EOS at MWC

Rumour: Nokia to unveil Project EOS at MWC

After the success of the 41MP Nokia 808 PureView, Windows Phone fans were hoping for a similar camera in the Lumia 920. Nokia however failed to keep up to the expectations despite the amazing low light capabilities of Lumia 920.

New rumours suggest hat Nokia might announce “Project EOS” at MWC this year. (EOS is also the brand name for Canon DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras so I am taking this news with a pinch of salt)

Nokia starts rolling out Portico update for Lumia 920 and 820

Nokia has started rolling out “Portico” update for international versions of Lumia 920 and 820. The US versions have already got this update. There are no major changes or a definite change-log. This update (version 8.0.10211.204) however brings the much needed “Always On” feature preventing the WiFi from disconnecting after screen time-out. This was earlier possible only using an app.

Ecosystems

Things happen. And when they’re less than favourable, you either work hard and fast to ensure you’re competitive, or you fall back, exhibiting your inability to prevent the fact that you’re the market leader has got to your head. Every leader is susceptible to the latter, but good leaders work hard and maintain their lead. It’s one thing to become a leader, another to retain your leadership.

The Lumia 920T is basically the same Lumia 920, except it supports China’s TD-SCDMA bands. Nokia launched it at an event in Guangzhou, along with China Mobile. China is the largest smartphone market, and China Mobile is the biggest telecom provider of the country, so…

Windows Phone Store Now Let’s You Side-load Apps, Sort Of

Ah, side-loading. Android has had this feature, and Symbian too. You can side-load apps on your iPhone after jailbreaking it. But on Windows Phone, you cannot, no matter what (only if you’ve dev-unlocked it etc), you cannot side-load an app. Microsoft, however, had mentioned that you can side-load apps starting with Windows Phone 8. No one knew how, though, but the Windows Phone Marketplace Store received a facelift recently,…

Damian Dinning To Leave Nokia At The End Of November

Damian Dinning To Leave Nokia At The End Of November

Shocker, but not really. Damian Dinning, or @PhoneDaz, is leaving Nokia at the end of this month. If you still don’t know who he is, then he’s the vision behind the PureView technology which wowed the world when Nokia launched the 808 PureView. Or Nokia’s Imaging lead, in other words. For a company proud of its Imaging…
