Nokia’s Lumia Brand Is More Popular Than The Windows Phone Brand As A Whole

Nokia Lumia Windows Phone

Here’s some interesting bit of information I came across – Nokia’s Lumia brand (and not just the phones) is eclipsing the entire Windows Phone brand as a whole, worldwide. Huge.

According to Google Trends, people are searching for ‘Nokia Lumia’ more than they’re searching for Windows Phone. ‘Lumia 800′ is, on its own, leading to greater searches than ‘Windows Phone’. All those monies spent on marketing the Lumia 800 are paying off, it may seem.

But, here’s another bit. Both ‘Nokia Lumia’ and ‘Lumia 800′ are massively popular in India, and Indians have influenced the worldwide trends heavily.

For example, Nokia Lumia brand is most popular in India, and next in Pakistan. While India is certainly a huge market for the Finnish giant, Pakistan is not quite, in terms of volume.

All this sounds like Nokia is marketing the products really well, when put together. But if you take out India from the equation, it’s not so exciting. Take for example the US market, where Nokia’s Lumia 900 is supposed to be the company’s re-entry vehicle in to the said market. US doesn’t even figure in the Top 10 regions, after applying the Lumia 900 filter. People there are barely searching for the Lumia brand. They’re instead Googling for Windows Phone (probably 100 times more).

From Windows Phone as a brand’s perspective, I’m not quite sure if it’s paying off. The very fact that Nokia Lumia brand is more popular than Windows Phone is quite amazing, if not surprising. But, considering the fact that Microsoft is bothered about the sales of any Windows Phone, it shouldn’t be worrying. Not in the short term at least. Long term… perhaps.
