The most simple way to use your laptop like a desktop computer is to rest it on top of a pile of large books. Place enough books in the pile until the top of the screen of your laptop is at eye level, and this is the height it should be at for you to work comfortably.

This will allow you to open up your laptop and rest the base at an angle so that the screen is again at a more comfortable height.
