Popular Office Suite, Quickoffice, Has Been Acquired By Google

Google acquires Quickoffice

You remember Quickoffice? Of course you do. I love it to bits. I’ve used it on my E-series smartphones from Nokia, and on Android. And there’s nothing else that impresses me as much as Quickoffice. Well, Google just acquired them.

In a blog post, Google’s Engineering Director, Alan Warren –

We’re happy to announce that we have acquired Quickoffice, a leader in office productivity solutions.

Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we’ll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite.

Quickoffice has a strong base of users, and we look forward to supporting them while we work on an even more seamless, intuitive and integrated experience.

We’re excited to welcome the Quickoffice team and their users to Google.

If this means that Android’s going to get a really solid Office Suite for free, tightly integrated with Google Drive, I’m excited. Heck, it does mean this. And this is in direct response to Microsoft. They have a solid office suite for Windows Phone with Skydrive integration.

Two words: Can’t wait.
