Okay, looks like the event we were all looking forward to, has been postponed. Reportedly, out of ‘respect for Jobs’.
Samsung and Google issued a joint statement to The Verge, which goes like this –
Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11.
Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.
If the current state of affairs was anything to go by, the CTIA event was supposed to show off Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime. With this postponement, and according to some rumors, the event may happen on 27th October, a day after Nokia announces its first Windows Phones. Umm, right after Nokia’s event. That ‘out of respect for Steve Jobs’, sounds fishy.
Oh, you don’t see any such thing in the joint statement above? Well, this statement from Google spokesperson to Business Insider says so –
We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing.
Well. I think we’re being taken for a ride here. But I could be wrong. Feel free to differ in the comments section below.
