Sony Announces Xperia S – It’s A Global Version Of Xperia Ion With A 4.3″ Display,

Sony Xperia S

Soon after launching the Xperia Ion, Sony has made official the Xperia S, which is nothing but an Xperia Ion, sans LTE support and a smaller display.

The Xperia S was leaked numerous times as the Xperia Nozomi, so much so that I have literally lost the count. Nonetheless, unlike other leaked devices, the Xperia S still continues to remain interesting, more so because it comes with a 12 MP camera. There’s Sony’s critically acclaimed Exmor R sensors, so you can rest assured they’ll be great. Oh, I’m so reminded of the Nokia N8’s amazing camera!

Without wasting a lot of time, here are the specs:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread, ICS upgrade in the works
  • 4.3″ HD resolution display (1280×720)
  • 1.5 GHz dual core processor, Adreno 220 GPU
  • 12 MP main camera (Exmor R sensors), LED flash, full HD video recording (1080p) @ 30 FPS; 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 1 GB RAM, 16 GB / 32 GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot, HSDPA
  • Bluetooth 3.0, USB OTG, GPS

However, I’m quite bummed about the fact that the ICS update will be pushed out starting second half of 2012. I mean, it’s already 2 months since ICS was announced, and the CyanogenMod team of independent developers has already pushed out alphas of ICS AOSP based CyanogenMod 9. How difficult can that be for an MNC like Sony and others?

Anyway, the Xperia S should be available by the end of Quarter 1, 2012.
