Nokia Launches Three Touchscreen Asha Phones – Asha 311, Asha 306 And Asha 305

Just when you thought that the Asha storm has passed, there’s another one you have to deal with – Nokia today launched the Asha 311, Asha 306 and Asha 305. All of them are touchscreen devices, not the touch-and-type variety.

All of them are feature-phones, of course, and run S40 Asha OS. I’m hearing S40 Asha OS for the first time, so I guess it’s newer than S40 FP6, which the last breed of traditional S40 phones ran. The UI is a bit Swipe-like, which has been demoed nicely. Find the videos below. But, before you do, a brief description of these new devices.

The Asha 311 is the most feature-rich device of the three, coming with a 3″ capacitive touchscreen, of 320×240 pixels resolution. Wait. I’ll make a bulleted list here -

  • Nokia S40 Asha OS
  • 3″ capacitive touchscreen of 400×240 resolution, Gorilla Glass Display
  • 1 GHz processor
  • 3.2 MP camera, no LED flash, no front facing camera
  • 128 MB RAM, 256 MB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card up to 32 GB
  • 3.5G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, USB OTG, Bluetooth
  • 40 EA games free, Angry Birds pre-loaded
  • 1110 mAh battery

The Asha 306 is a bit different. It comes with a 3″ display, but it’s resistive, unlike the 311. You have to wonder what they were doing, launching a phone with a resistive touchscreen in 2012. Facepalm ensues.

  • Nokia S40 Asha OS
  • 3″ resistive touchscreen of 320×240 resolution
  • 1 GHz processor
  • 2 MP camera, no LED flash, no front facing camera
  • 32 MB RAM, 64 MB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card up to 32 GB, 2 GB card bundled
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth
  • 40 EA games free, Angry Birds pre-loaded
  • 1110 mAh battery

The Asha 305 also comes with the same feature set as the Asha 306, except for Wi-Fi and video streaming over GPRS. Oh, it also support two SIMs, aka it’s a dual SIM device (GSM+GSM).

Nokia Maps will also be available for these devices, but only in select markets. The Asha 311 and 306 will ship in Quarter 3, and are priced at €68, and €92 respectively. The Asha 305 will ship in Q2, i.e., this month, and will cost €63.

I’m particularly looking forward to Asha 311. It looks good, and I do want to try the new S40 Asha OS.
