There’s No Carla After Belle, Says Nokia Italy Official

Nokia Belle No Carla

If you were expecting your latest Symbian device would be getting the rumored ‘Carla’ update, here’s the bad news – a Nokia Italy official, Mathias Forin. Forin is the Product Marketing Manager for Nokia South Europe, and according to his statement, Belle is the last major upgrade to the Symbian platform. The OS is very near to death, in other terms.

Forin also goes on to say that the Feature Pack 1 update that started rolling out a couple of weeks back, is actually Carla. The Feature Pack 2 update might as well be the last update to be termed as a Feature Pack, and that’s as much about it. Oh – this FP2 update won’t bring support for dual core processors, HD displays and the like. It should fix some bugs and add a thing or two of its own.

Although I’ve loved Symbian, I’m actually happy to see this happen – Symbian on touch has been a nightmare. I still rock an S60 based E-series device and I love it to bits, but I’d like to see Symbian die sooner than later.
