Samsung Announces ISOCELL Technology for Camera Sensors, Promises Better Low Light Performance

Samsung Announces ISOCELL Technology for Camera Sensors, Promises Better Low Light Performance

Samsung Electronics announced ISOCELL technology for its CMOS sensors earlier this week. Previously Samsung were using Sony’s BSI-CMOS sensors (popularly known as Exmor-R sensors) for many of their flagships. BSI-CMOS is an excellent technology. However Samsung claims that the new ISOCELL “substantially increases light sensitivity and effectively controls the absorption of electrons, resulting in higher color fidelity even in poor lighting conditions.”

Samsung hasn’t mentioned it anywhere but…

SGS4 camera samples appear on Google+, confirm 1/3″ 13MP sensor

SGS4 camera samples appear on Google+, confirm 1/3″ 13MP sensor

I accidentally came across a couple of images that were supposedly taken earlier today using Samsung’s next flagship phone – the Galaxy S4. EXIF data mentions model as GT-I9500 which possibly corresponds to SGS4.

Both images are in 16:9 format and have a resolution of 4128 x 2322 that is roughly 9.6MP.  However a 13MP sensor will also take pictures in similar resolution in Auto mode because the viewfinder can only utilize full screen in 16:9…

HTC’s latest flagship “One” aks M7 has 4MP ultrapixel camera. HTC aims to end the megapixel race by providing consumers with better image quality rather than just numbers. Looking at Android smartphone cameras, there has been very little improvement in image quality. Nokia 808 PureView goes for a walk in China, takes amazing pictures

A Chinese website recently previewed the 808 PureView. While their preview is in chinese and Google translate fails to make any sense out of it, pictures speak… or rather shout. Every picture is amazing. Note that these pictures were taken in 38/34MP mode and scaled to 8MP. Sadly there is no exif data to read ISO values or shutter speed.

If you are concerned about noise in low light images,…
