Nokia And New India Assurance Launch Handset Insurance Plan, Covering All New Phone Purchases
In a consumer-friendly initiative, Nokia India and New India Assurance have come together to provide insurance on mobile phones. This scheme applies on all new phones purchased from Nokia Priority Dealers in the following cities – Delhi and the National Capital Region, Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Cochin.
The plan covers the following bits –
Third party threatening to use violence resulting in damage or theft of device
Accidental damage to the exterior/interior components.
Damage caused by external impact on the device due to dropping and/or other deliberate action by third party.
Damage caused by accidental entry of fluid in the device’s internal circuitry
Loss of device through housebreaking.
Loss of device riots, strikes and other malicious acts
- Theft of device from locked or unattended building, room or vehicle
Coming to the costs – the minimum insurance premium starts at Rs. 50, and based on the device’s value, the net premium will be 1.25% of the device’s total value. Which is very less for the peace of mind you get for it. I hope other companies emulate Nokia here.
The new scheme starts from March 14th, 2013, and the insurance is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.
