Nokia World Gets A New ‘Format’ – Separate Event For Carriers/Retail Partners And Others
I’ve always wanted to attend the Nokia World, Nokia’s annual event, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be making it. Nokia has just announced that it has re-imagined the event, and also, it has bumped up the date. Instead of October, it’s now going to be held on September 5 and 6. That’s only for the Carriers and Retail partners, and it will be an invite-only event.
The Finns will also be organizing several, more ‘intimate’ events, for the press around the world, but there won’t be one place where all these people can meet. It does sound a tad too bad at first, but it’s not as much as it seems –
- Microsoft is going to unveil Windows Phone 8, aka Apollo, and Windows 8, some time in October. And they wouldn’t want anyone to unveil this before they do, which explains the advancement of the event.
- Also, that the event is invite-only, and that it is only for the carriers and the retail partners, explains another aspect – Nokia doesn’t want information about its Apollo running devices to be leaked out. Which explains why there are separate events for the enthusiasts ’round the globe.
Now, all this is happening because of Microsoft’s launch schedule. In my opinion, WP8 is being launched way too late. I know they’re trying to target the Holiday season, but it’s still very late in the year, and I fear Windows Phone may lose the buzz by then.
So, what do you think Nokia will announce for the public? Meltemi devices? Possible. There is also a word doing the rounds that there’s another S60 E-series device in the wings, but it’s all very loose talk right now.
Well, let’s wait and see what happens.
