Samsung Ends Nokia’s 14 Year Reign At The Top Of The Mobile Hill, Reports Record Profits

Samsung earnings report

This is a great day for Samsung, shipping, for the first time, more phones than Nokia, in a quarter. Strategy Analytics reports that the Korean conglomerate has shipped 93.5 Million phones in the past three months, beating Nokia by a pretty solid margin of 10 Million. The Finns could ship 82.7 Million phones in the same period.

Samsung also beat Apple. Out of the 93.5M phones, 44.5M were smartphones, beating Apple’s count of 35.1M iPhones in the same period.

Talking about the revenues of the company – Samsung’s Operating Profit (the Consumer Electronics division) increased by, (take a deep breath), 550%, compared to the same quarter last year. And you’d remember Samsung manufactures a lot of things, apart from Mobiles. The Mobiles division’s contribution increasing by 86% YoY.

In global shipments, Samsung’s share stood at 25%, with Nokia standing in close at 23%. The year end is going to be interesting, and I can’t wait to watch if Nokia will regain the position it held for 14 years, or if Samsung will continue killing.
