Skype Is Now A Part Of Microsoft, Officially

Microsoft Skype

In an important development today, Microsoft has just announced that Skype is now a part of Microsoft.

Skype will now be a business unit of Microsoft, and Tony Bates, Skype’s CEO, will assume the title of President of the Skype division of Microsoft.

“Skype is a phenomenal product and brand that is loved by hundreds of millions of people around the world,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “We look forward to working with the Skype team to create new ways for people to stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues — anytime, anywhere.”

Skype’s solutions across platforms will continue to exist in the short term, and it will be more deeply integrated across Microsoft’s array of services, in the long term. This means quite some thing for Windows Phone, in particular.
