Skype Should Work Pretty Well On Lumia 610, Says Nokia
Microsoft had warned that Skype wouldn’t run on phones with less than 512 MB RAM, remember? Sure. There was some noise made, and many people joked. It was also a sign that fragmentation was rearing it’s ugly fang at Windows Phone.
But it seems, there’s a workaround for this. Nokia is reporting that it is getting Skype to work on the Lumia 610, the first Tango phone (Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh), with 256 MB RAM. Microsoft had set the minimum RAM limit to 512 MB, hence ruling out all the Tango phones. Nokia, on the other hand, is testing the app on the Lumia 610 internally, and after initial hiccups, the app is now running fine.
Call it a case of poor communication or lack of smooth coordination, but conflicting reports emerging from the two companies will cause confusion. We’ll wait to see what happens in the end, and inform you.
